In mid-April the path under the Westgate bridge was re-opened after bridge strengthening works so this walk can be added to the Lake walk to make a longer expedition.
Starting at Lorimer Street (parking is usually available in the street), then turn left under the bridge and along the river to the fence …….
passing by sand dune plants…….
and coast banksia woodland ……….
and around the hill towards a saltmarsh and ephemeral lagoon area.
Turning left at the bridge underpass you can walk alongside the bridge and back though a densely vegetated track of casuarinas and eucalypts.
Either return along the original path or loop back over the grassy saddle back to the dirt track through the banksias. Or, continue on under the bridge to the main part of the Park.

Greetings! We came today – Sat 11 May – to check whether there is again access to the Yarra/Punt. Hurrah, it is! You might want to pass on this good news by having the River Walk page updated. Our visit uplifted our spirit and we have high regards for your work. We were especially surprised about the state of the park on the other side of the bridge. How can we join the Friends / be on your mailing list for activities etc.?
Fond regards, Liz + Hart
Hi Liz and Hart. Thanks for picking that up. We do have a notice on our home page showing the path open again and I will fix the River Walk post haste! We would love you to join and it would be terrific to have you come to events. The ‘events’ button on the top menu bar provides dates and times for volunteer effort – planting, mulching, working in the nursery etc. Our people work there every Monday and Tuesday, other days we have corporate and community groups by arrangement and our Friends work day is 9.00am to 4.00pm the 3rd Sunday of the month. If you give Tony a call on 0400 770 254 he can tell you where to come to when you arrive and sign you up. We are glad you like our wonderful park!
Great to hear from you, Lyn
