Cycle, jog, BBQ, picnic, kick a footy

The Park is a great place to explore over 300 locally indigenous plant varieties and observe the more than 100 species of birds that visit or have made the Park their preferred habitat in recent years but there is even more to do and see!

In addition to the main path around the lake and down to the river section at the west, the Park is blessed with lots of easy walking and jogging paths, most of which are accessible by wheelchair, pram and kids on scooters.  Check out our three self-guided walks or explore for yourself.

The link to the river section (closed during bridge works) is now open.

Take in the sights, smells and sounds of being surrounded by plants and animals that existed in in inner Melbourne before European settlement.

It’s a great place to teach children about the natural world.  You can bring your kids to one of our third-Sunday-of-the-month work days where they can learn to plant and watch the fruits of their efforts in years to come.

There’s a free BBQ, picnic tables and seats for contemplation throughout the park and the oval is great for just kicking a footy around, fringed by a red gum woodland embankment and lots of wildflowers.

It’s worth coming regularly to appreciate the phenomenal growth of plants and the seasonal changes.  Spring and Summer means a spectacular display of wildflowers, and flowering shrubs, water birds nesting around the lakes. Autumn and Winter brings out the wattles, the peas and the eucalypt blossoms.

The view across the saltwater lake at sunset is not to be missed and a crisp winter morning is just as beautiful.
