Corporate teams

Do you arrange community volunteering for your organisation? If so, we invite you to bring your staff to Westgate Park. Corporate teams are hugely important to our work in the Park and we have a great track record in making the day a positive and worthwhile experience.

We have developed excellent relationships with the following corporations and we thank them sincerely for their support of us and of our work in the Park.  We are grateful for their staff volunteers, their financial contributions, their expertise and, in some cases, their stormwater!

Here’s what a recent team member said:

Carol; “I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it.  It was really good to be out of the office and we were lucky to have a sunny day and to be with my colleagues but not for the most part talking about work but to be doing something physical and very different from what we would normally be doing.  I’ve not been to the park before – I didn’t even know it was here.  I would certainly like to come back. I want to come back and show my children the plants I planted.”

Robert: “It’s been lovely – the sunshine has made it a pleasant change from the office.  We’ve shifted a lot of mulch, planted a stack of plants, cleaned out a pile of seeds – it’s been fun.  I wasn’t aware that this Park was here so I look forward to bringing the kids back and having a look around.”

Irene: “It was just nice to give back something.  I’m actually a local so it was nice to come down for the day and enjoy the sunshine and to get in there and mulch and plant away and do something for the environment.  It’s nice to hear about the history and how it’s changed over the years and I look forward to seeing the changes in the next 10-20 years!”

Your staff can improve the local environment by

* Planting locally native trees, shrubs, grasses and under storey plants

* Converting weed covered areas into native garden beds by spreading mulch

* Helping to maintain recently planted out areas by weeding and pruning

* Building paths, tracks and sleeper steps

* Helping out in our own on-site plant nursery

You will be working with a team of experienced and dedicated volunteers who will show you how to do all the tasks with an emphasis on working safely together as a team.

All those who volunteer will be provided with details of where to find us and what to wear and bring along, and a program of what we will be doing. We want you to get the most out of the day.

The Friends of Westgate Park appreciate the time our volunteers make available to help us achieve our vision. We will work closely with you to plan a day that suits you. Should you wish us to provide lunch on the day, this can be arranged.

Our preference if for Mondays and Tuesdays, however other days of the week or the weekend are also available at times. To make a booking, or for further information contact Tony Flude on 0400 770 254 or email tonyflude@alphalink.com.au
