Although water levels in the two large lakes remain high, smaller water bodies and the dam are low. Hence waterbird numbers are little changed from last month, that is very low. The only major difference: 15 Eurasian Coots compared to 28 for July, with many in a saltwater lagoon. Only three wetland-dependent birds, a pair of Black Swans and a single Black-fronted Dotterel, were seen beside the saltwater lake this survey.
Interesting/notable sightings:
– Buff-banded Rail and Nankeen Night-heron observed before the survey. Neither of these two occasional visitors have been recorded in the park for well over a year.
– Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters, Spotted Pardalotes were seen but only occasionally heard this survey.
